Martin

Tell us about yourself.
I hate talking about myself, so I’m terrible at broad questions such as this one. Going to skip to the more specific questions, where I can ramble in a somewhat focused manner.

What made you decide to choose Content Runner?
I chose it because I was having a hard time getting established at other freelancing websites, where other writers had already been entrenched for years and cumbersome application rules bogged me down. Content Runner’s relative newness gave a chance to writers like me, who can do the job but might be newer to the field.

That’s a big factor why I chose it. As for why I’m still here, I stuck with it because I love the system. Communication’s easy with clients, you can pick up nearly limitless work depending on how much time you have in a given week, and the payment system’s reliable.

What do you love about writing?
I can do it whenever–the job is pretty flexible, aside from deadlines. I learn a lot doing the job. And, if you do it long enough and well enough, it eventually pays money.

When you aren’t writing content for Content Runner, what do you do in your spare time?
Watching sports, trying new beers, writing or editing stuff for other clients or myself.

How did you get into writing?
Reading was my primary entertainment as a child, which gave me a good sense of how words fit together. From there, I was good at writing throughout school, which was lucky–I’m not particularly skilled at anything else. I became a writing tutor in college (2009) and have been employed in the field since then.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
Belize. I’ve been once already, and it was the best trip of my life.

If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
Wings. Not only are they my favorite food, but you can make them taste like any sauce you have on hand. That versatility would be nice if I were to eat one thing until I died (which would likely be quick, given the nutritional value of wings).

If you weren’t a professional writer, what would you be?
Likely unemployed. I’m useless at other pursuits.

What is your biggest grammatical pet peeve?
When someone picks out a small mistake–for instance, affect vs. effect–and uses that to dismiss an entire idea, paper, or article. You see it all the time on message boards.

What is your favorite subject to write about?
Changes every year. Used to be sports, now it’s probably economics. I’m flighty like that.
