Content Runner was built to help our community of Writers find work from our community of Users who need content written. Most of the time, this works out great, and you all have been super productive! But sometimes the demand for content drops off—say, near a holiday weekend—and all the open projects get snatched up.
What’s a Writer to do? You could try completing some microtasks from our partner, CrowdFlower!
What’s a Microtask?
A microtask is just what it sounds like: a very small amount of work. More broadly, microtasking is the next big thing in crowdsourcing—microtasks allow companies to achieve impressive and difficult feats of content generation, categorization, data analysis and more by taking baby steps. Dozens or even hundreds of contributors can all pitch in by working on microtasks that, individually, are almost effortless and require little or no training to complete, such as comparing two instances of a brand name to be sure they match or transcribing a very short audio clip.
Will I Earn Money for Microtasking?
Absolutely! Because each task is so small, they are usually only worth a small amount of money, often just pennies. On the other hand, each task is so small that you might be able to work through 100 tasks in 20 minutes; it just depends on what’s available at the time. Additionally, the more jobs you complete for CrowdFlower, the more (and frequently higher-paying) jobs will be available to you. When you browse the available jobs from CrowdFlower, you’ll also see the number of potential jobs, which are those you don’t yet qualify for. Keep working at it! The more jobs you complete and the more Test Questions you answer, the higher your trust score will be and the more jobs will be available to you.
So How Do I Get Started?
You can get started any time by visiting the CrowdFlower page on Content Runner. You’ll be prompted to go to CrowdFlower’s site to sign up. Don’t worry—all the work can still be completed through Content Runner. In order to sign up with CrowdFlower you’ll need to log in using your Facebook account, but it doesn’t require any permissions at all, and they won’t post on your behalf. Once you’ve signed up and answered a first round of test questions, you’ll be ready to start taking jobs from those listed on Content Runner.
If you’re looking for a way to pass the time and earn a little extra spending money, microtasking with CrowdFlower might be a good fit. If you have any questions, feel free to let us know! You can drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org, or find us on Twitter and Facebook.
